UFC 112 - Fight Card update.
Feb. 13th, 2010 - 9:22am

This is an "Opinion" piece...NOT straight news!

Damian Maia, replacing the injured Victor Belfort , will fight the Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva at UFC 112. "Apparently," Chael Sonnen (who actually deserves a title shot), was not available due to injuries sustained in his WINNING performance against Nate Marquardt at UFC 109.

This is probably NOT the fight that fans would like, but is probably the best fight that the UFC can put together (cough, cough), for UFC 112...AND...Just look how well this has worked out for the UFC:
1) Damian Maia is an Abu Dhabi grappling champion.
2) Abu Dhabi's "Flash Entertainment" just bought 10% of the UFC.
3) UFC 112 will be held...Where else: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates!

Let's see...Anderson Silva beat Marquardt...Marquardt beat Damian Maia in 30 seconds (UFC 102)...Chael Sonnen beat Marquardt (UFC 109). It makes TOTAL sense to match up Silva vs. Maia, doesn't it???

OK...I understand that "injuries" may have come into play...But, Chael Sonnen should get the winner of Silva vs. Maia...NO EXCUSES!

Four fighters released from UFC.
February, 10th, 2010 - 8:45am
Mark Coleman, Frank Trigg, Phillipe Nover and Tim Hague...All have been released from the UFC.

Mark Coleman's release marks the 2nd time that a fighter, after appearing in a Main Event, was released immediately following the event. The first time was Tim Sylvia, being defeated by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, after UFC 81.

Frank Trigg, was knocked out in the 1st round, in his last two fights...(UFC 86 by Josh Koshnek, and UFC 109 by Matt Serra).

The Ultimate Fighter (season seven), finalist: Phillipe Nover, was winless in all three of his UFC fights. This is the guy that Dana White said reminded him of a young George St. Pierre.

Tim Hague was winless in his two UFC fights. Unfortunately, he may be remembered as the man who was knocked out in only seven seconds at UFC 102 by Todd Duffee.

Greg Jackson talks about Dan Hardy & GSP...
Greg Jackson talks to Sherdog.com about GSP's next match up with Dan Hardy:

"He has a lot of skills. He's got really good power. The problem with guys like Dan Hardy is that he's young, he's hungry, he's got very good skills and if he catches you the wrong way, you zig when you should have zagged and that might be it. Remember that Matt Serra was never considered a real threat to Georges. Everyone was laughing it off, then all of a sudden Georges was in a lot of trouble. So if you go into any fight thinking this guy is going to be easy, this guy is going to be a walkover, this isn't a legitimate threat, it puts you in a place mentally where you aren't going to train as hard, you're not going to be as hungry and Hardy is a legitimate serious threat and needs to be treated as such."
- Greg Jackson (GSP's trainer).
